Advice nowadays is the cheapest commodity available to human beings. As soon as you open the internet you have texts, graphics, and videos of people throwing unsolicited advice towards you.

And do not imagine for one second that you are immune to them. But at the end of the day, the decision is in your hands. Whether to follow them or toss them in the trash can. It’s all up to you.

People differ, and so do their situations along with the advice applicable to their lives. Below are some of the advice that are most common to hear but it is better that you do not follow them anymore.

Never Give up

This phrase is something that you would hear from the most motivated and zealous people around you. These are the people who are full of positivity and strength. Some might envy you for having such cheerleaders with you. All your family and friends ask you not to give up when you encounter a sort of failure or any setback.

However, just like many circumstances, your situation is also very exclusive to you. Sometimes, letting things go and not being stubborn about it can make you focus on other things that you have been neglecting all along.

In life, many people realize it too late that only if they could have refocused and adjust their energy to the things that truly needed their attention at the time, instead of being stubborn about the meaningless things. They could have achieved much more and had been so much happier.

Just like any other situation in life, you need to be analytical and look for the pros and cons when you find yourself making the hard decision whether to give up or not. If it is too risky for you and you do not foresee any substantial gain, it is better to let go.

Money can’t buy Happiness.

Either you hear it from the media or from the philosophical findings that money can’t buy happiness. You might have seen some cases around you as well. When it’s apparent even though some people had a lot of money, they were never satisfied in their lives.

However, you cannot deny the fact that money certainly acts like a cushion when you are dealing with the toughest situations in life. And since money is one of the biggest factors the world revolves around, it plays an essential part in our lives. And to a certain extent, if you have sufficient funds, money does offer happiness.

This saying can now be turned into money can’t guarantee happiness. Because happiness is never driven by one factor in life. So, people who think that if they can make enough money happiness would follow them, they can be wrong as well.

It is lonely at the top.

People who think they can achieve success or gain success faster if they work alone might not always be right. But, this kind of mindset has a lot of negative effects on people.

People with such a mindset are always scared or hesitant to ask for help. Considering their preconceived notions, they are also most likely to think negatively about people who are incapable of helping them or do not appreciate them for their efforts.

Research has shown that success is more sustainable and concrete in a group or a team. It is also unlikely that people would not want to celebrate your success with you.

So, the belief that either you have to achieve success all on your own or you have to be alone once you have succeeded only festers a negative mindset and eventually leads to sadness and depression.

Always follow your Passion.

“If you ever find yourself lost, always remember what were you most passionate about as a child?” You may have come across these quotes on the internet regularly. But when it comes to reality and facing the problems of the real world, you need to think about a thousand other things that may affect your life if you follow your passions.

Pursuing what you love or are passionate about may seem a great idea at first. However, when your lives get severely affected by it then you need to take immediate steps and work with a more pragmatic approach about what’s important and how to pursue it.

Is there any way that you can find a middle ground between doing what you love and sustaining a work or job that you are not so passionate about? You also need to think about your life and your responsibilities towards them.

Following your passion may not always be as easy as people perceive it.

Fake it till you make it.

It is one of the shallowest advices that pop culture has propelled towards the present and coming generations.

Faking it gives you a delusional understanding of the situation that you want to have as well as the situation where you’re currently at. Such a mindset often leads to the making of a risky foundation that is susceptible to time and advancements.

People who believe in this advice often lose their energy maintaining the resources to fake it because they think this would eventually count their story as one of the successes.

Instead, what they should do is build their foundation brick by brick. Admit their failures and their losses with responsibility. Thus, making a more sustainable route towards future success.

Which of the above advice have you heard more often? Or did you believe in any of them? Are there more that you would like to add to this list?
