You want to achieve a lot of things and work towards it. But you don’t understand how to do it since you are lazy and cannot find enough motivation to work towards it.
If you were not so lazy, things would have been different for you. You keep searching for that motivation but you cannot find it. And you don’t know what to do anymore.
Here is a blueprint to stop being lazy and get some motivation to start working on your goals. Thank us later.
Break the Pattern.
When you are lazy, lying in your bed, and do not have the energy to do anything, all you need is something that breaks that pattern. Something or someone who can end the constant cycle of bed rotting.
However, there are other reasons to be in that state like clinical depression, dopamine deficiency, or seasonal sadness. But if you think that these factors do not apply to you, then you must do something for yourself.
Ask your friend or partner to get you out of the bed. Go out and treat yourself to an ice cream. Do a coffee run to your local café and try to sit there for a while in silence.
Sometimes, you lay in bed doom-scrolling wondering if you will get up only when you have the energy to do that. But if you sit in silence without distracting yourself for a while, you will know that you need to break the pattern and only you can help yourself out of it.
Little wins are your breakthrough.
Breaking your pattern is not enough, you need to keep pace with your breakthrough. Start small and take small wins. It will not only motivate you to keep going but also check down another task from the checklist eventually making you feel good about it.
Don’t forget to recognize these small wins and give yourself a pat on the back. All you need to do is to avoid zero days. Every day, you need to do something about what you think of doing. It can be a project, a book, building a body, learning a skill, or understanding something.
Noting how much you have come from the beginning can also boost to keep you going. You can also tell the world about it. So, you can’t step back. Maybe journal your journey for the world to see. Then, it will become your responsibility to keep going.
Work towards a goal.
Every one of us has a goal in our mind and we want to work towards it. Only if we were not, lazy and had a system that worked. Your next step is to build a system that not only works as a game plan towards your objective. But it also works to support you through that game plan.
Since you understand your goals better and are aware of your shortcomings that can hinder you from achieving those goals, you are the perfect person to make that system accordingly.
All you need to do is make room for any distractions, pitfalls, blocks, or any change in the timeline for you to be working towards that goal. You also need to record your work, so you can make the necessary changes later.
Remember, you can only improve what you can record.
Know your why.
A concrete base for any system to work effectively is to know why you are working towards that goal and why the system has been in place. This is where most people make mistakes and therefore, they fail and become demotivated as soon as they start.
For example. If you want to go to the gym and work on your body, the question you should ask yourself as why do you want to do that in the first place? Are working towards a healthy body? Do you want to look good? Do you want to feel good about yourself? Or do you think a healthy body and mind will attract attention from a special someone?
Then again, getting attention from someone is not enough. Why do you want to get attention from them? Do you want to validate your presence? Or do you not want to be lonely anymore?
Knowing your why is important because that will be your actual driving force. At this point, you don’t need to think about the system, the goals, and what and how you are in the moment. But where do you want to be and why do you want to be there?
Plan through your goal.
One of the biggest mistakes make while working on ourselves or our goals is we never plan through them. You are aware of where you want to be and what you want in life but do not know how to reach there.
Hence, you need a plan. It does not have to be foolproof. But it has to have all the steps, required to reach your desired stage, as you can see from here. You should have a reward system to keep you going through those goals.
Don’t forget to fill your plan with tiny milestones, so you can see how far you have come from where you had started. It is important to measure, improve, and progress further in your plan.
Have room for distractions.
Once you start working on your plan, distractions are bound to happen. Since your mind will not immediately accept the hardship you are trying to put it through. It will take some time to adjust to that.
Therefore, there is a high chance that you get distracted. You go off-course and realize that you have achieved nothing, then again, fall into the same demotivated abyss that you pulled yourself from.
Here is where self-discipline and willpower will help you. You can get yourself back immediately because your day’s task has not been accomplished yet. You need to understand there can be room for procrastination but you have to keep minimizing it as much as you can.
You can keep room for distractions in your plan or your system but do not use it as an excuse to keep diverting from the path that you had set for yourself.
Have a winning/disciplined mindset.
Mindset is the key. You can suddenly have the motivation to work, but if you do not have the right mindset to keep it going, it will be hard for you to achieve anything.
Therefore, it is necessary to work on your mindset. There are a couple of things that you need to have a winner’s mindset and achieve anything. You need the self-discipline to save yourself from getting distracted and the willpower to keep going instead of the odds.
Consider it a transition from a lazy, de-motivated person to a winning person who can achieve whatever they want.
Have a support system.
Sometimes, we don’t have enough energy to keep going. There are also times when we can’t see the possibilities, our potential, or the potential in our dreams and plans. And that is when we need a strong support system.
You can have your friends, colleagues, your family, or your partner as your support system. Someone who does not only understand you through your existence but is determined to stay with you through thick and thin.
It is important to have a good support system for anyone who has great plans and is working towards achieving them. This can be the person who pulls you out of your bed on a bad day. Or who believe in you when you doubt your work or effort.
Know yourself better and start building yourself.
People trying to transition from their demotivated selves to successful individuals with a winner’s mindset face their biggest enemy in themselves. They do not know themselves enough to know any better and to work towards what they want.
Therefore, self-reflection is necessary when pulling yourself out of the bed-rotting phase. This may include a lot of soul-searching, working on your past, your thinking, and your personality. You can only make a sustainable system when you understand yourself.
But knowing you is not a once-in-a-lifetime process. Different phases of your life require a different version of you. So, you change and adapt yourself accordingly. But if that change comes from within and thorough understanding, it will be long-lasting.
Keep yourself on the track.
Only the person who stays in the game till the end has a high chance of winning the game. No matter how many roadblocks they face, or how rigged the system is. You can only win if you keep yourself on the right track in the right direction.
You can always step back, re-calculate the risks, and move forward with a different strategy. But you need to keep going. You can re-assess your priorities at times. Not every track is made for you and you do not need to win every race.
But consider giving your best in what you can do. And stay determined to keep yourself going.
Conclusion
Sometimes, getting yourself out of the lazy and demotivated zone can take all your energy and you cannot think of anything else. But it is fine until you do what you need to do then. Be kind to yourself.
