Physical Rest
This is the most common type of rest that we are familiar with. And we often think that getting enough sleep, or enough hours of sleep would be appropriate for your body. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
Instead, your body needs enough sleep to rest and rejuvenate to resume functions. There are different stages of sleep. From the movement, your muscle relaxes, and you go to sleep to the final REM sleep. Your body only feels relaxed when it completes the cycle.
However, you can train your body to complete the cycle in less than usual time. But you need to understand what your body is indicating about sleep requirements and follow that accordingly. Don’t forget to take a break after heavy exercise routines since your body needs more time to heal after vigorous workouts.
Mental Rest
Mental Rest is about taking a break from constant mental stimulation. It constitutes the activities of letting the brain relax from thinking, learning, processing, interacting, or persistent decision-making.
People generally get away from their everyday work determining that would give them mental relaxation. However, their brain cannot get away from thinking and constantly processing received information, it cannot be called complete rest.
So, you need to understand that complete mental rest is switching from your brain or cutting it off from constant stimulus or over-processing the information. Deep breathing, meditation, spending some time in nature, or listening to music are some of the ways that can help you practice mental relaxation.
Emotional Rest
Emotional Rest is another kind of rest that people are unaware of or don’t know how to practice. Emotional Rest is the ability to process and express emotions, in a healthy way. It is a feeling when we don’t need to hide different parts of ourselves.

Social Rest

Nonetheless, every person needs some quiet time. A few moments in a day when they can cut their energies off the world and socially isolate themselves. No wonder, social rest also includes cutting off from social media.
Feelings like being lonely in the world, being detached from people surrounding you, or feeling like no one understands you are among the symptoms that indicate that you need social rest.
Sensory Rest
In a world, where we check our phones as soon as we wake up, sensory rest is another important thing we need to take care of. From the moment we wake up to when we are in deep sleep. We are bombarded by multiple sensory stimuli. Sometimes, it all happens simultaneously. That becomes another reason for exhaustion.
That is why, it is always recommended to stay away from phones before and after going to sleep. However, sitting in natural stimuli like nature sounds, white noise, and brown noise is good for sensory rest.
So, instead of watching your favorite movie, it is good to hear relaxing sounds before falling asleep. This practice can help in relaxing your senses and make you ready for deep sleep.
Creative Rest
Even though you are not a part of a creative industry, you still need creative rest. As humans, we utilize our creative abilities in different ways during day-to-day activities. These abilities may involve decision-making skills, problem-solving, processing information, producing, or synthesizing.
Thus, creative rest is most significant to avoid burnout. You can go for a walk in nature to feel more grounded. Try to pursue a hobby that you always wanted to pursue. It can also help in healing your inner child. Listening to your favorite music can also lead to creative relaxation.
